How often to start your car when stored
How often should you start and roll your car when it's perma-stored?
My Mustang was on my mind the other day. I think I've only had it started once since its final show of the year in July. I meant to go uncover it start it up today but got busy with other things. It will get serviced in November, so will at least be started then. Other than that, it won't be out of storage until the June and July shows next year. How often should I start it and roll it to get the fluids going. I don't imagine it should be left for 7 months, correct? Thanks in advance! |
We normally start our car every 2-3 weeks and we'll move the car forward and backward about 5 feet to keep the tires moving and etc.

How long is your storage period? Starting the car without driving it has some disadvantages due to not getting the engine hot enough to blow out some carbon. If you're storing it for only about 3-4 months I wouldn't bother providing you've prepped it ok. Otherwise, I'd consider a 10 mile trip or so on a dry day about once every 4-6 weeks.

Do all of you live in Alaska? I don't get why you all would store your Stang away for the winter. I don't use mines as a DD, but I know I will take it out when it's a nice day summer or winter.

The storage period is indefinate - I only show the car now, I don't drive it anymore. The show schedule, or at least the ones I take it to, start about mid June and go to the end of July. During that time frame, weather permitting, I'll drive it 6 weekends out of 7, both Saturday and Sunday.
I live in Vancouver, BC where winters are very mild, usually no snow and typically no salt on the roads. What prep work should be done before storing it 10 months out of the year to ensure it will run come June? Thanks all! |
