Tuning and warranty

Tuning and warranty
Just got my first 'stang yesterday! The dealer gave me an official Ford brochure today about aftermarket upgrades. The brochure said that Ford will no longer void the engine warranty after a CAI and tune if the dealer installs it. I asked the guys in the service department about that but they had no clue. They say that Ford is always putting stuff like that in print without telling them. They said that they don't do any performance upgrades in the dealership shop but sub that work out to independents. The service manager told me that the brochure probably means that Ford will maintain the warranty as long as the work is done by one of their authorized independent shops. I'll try to clarify and will report back if I get something firm. I'd really like to do a tune but don't want to void my warranty.

It is illegal with regard to federal American law to void your warranty due to a CAI and tune install. The only thing that is voided is the warranty on the CAI itself, which doesn't break anyway and isn't made by Ford so it wouldn't be expected to carry a Ford warranty really.

Ford can only deny warranty work if the aftermarket part was the cause of the failure. Don't sweat the warranty. Get yourself a decent CAI & tune combo. The install is easy. The extra performance (approx. 15-25 RWHP or more) is well worth it. I've had my car in for warranty work and the shop manager and mechanic commented on the "nice CAI" while working.
