Well for rwhp, the manual will ALWAYS have higher numbers. There's more loss in the auto due to slippage. Manual typically has a 15% drive-train loss whereas the auto typically has 20% (sometimes more depending on what auto).

1. Power is lost in drivetrain in autos
2. Not everything is drag racing. A manual would be much more beneficial in a road race or autocross race.

If you are going to be driving in New York, which has a lot of stop-and-go traffic; then an automatic is for you. Believe me, I live in Miami and almost every day, its a hassle because of traffic.

The OP's question dealt with which tranny to choose based on city driving conditions. Those of you that haven't lived in a large metropolitan city and driven in conditions where it takes an hour of stop-and-go traffic to go 10 miles at a dead stop to a crawl to 30 MPH and back to a dead stop, over and over, ON A DAILY BASIS have no point of reference to judge. We'll always argue which one's better at the track and which is more fun to drive and there will always be those that swear that one is hands down better than the other.

Get a track you two!

I would recomend an auto for heavy traffic, but not a V6 auto.
IMO it's V6 or auto, not both.

I live in PA and for work have to do a lot of trips into NY going to places such as Yonkers, Whiteplains, Manhattan, the Catskills, etc, needless to say I've spent a good portion of my time sitting in traffic, I used to have an automatic Explorer but upgraded to the Mustang and as much as I love it I have to admit that an automatic would sometimes be nice

However realistically the choice has to be yours, get whatever you are more comfortable with.... despite what I said above I would never have gotten an automatic because I don't see the point of getting a car like the Mustang in an auto (well unless you can't drive stick ) even though the traffic is a pain as soon as I clear say the Lincoln tunnel or the GWB I am gone shifting straight through those gears.....

get an auto.....you really limit the resale of a V6 with a stick. Generally, women don't want of know how to drive a stick.
