Towing My Mustang

i would either use a trailer like saddle said or a flatbed rollback...that way is elevated off the ground and better protected from road debris...

The reason I'm not getting an Auto Transport is because it's almost $500 to rent one way. I can get my brother to drive it for only $150 in gas. I figured I'd bite the bullet and pay $50 extra for the dolly to have company on the 1100 mile trip. But if I'm just gonna go for a Transport then I might as well have him drive it. :/ I'm looking for any information that I can get with a Tow Dolly or Tow Bar. Any experiences. Etc... I appreciate the responses though!

I would not get the tow dolly unless you want to end up like this...
I have had quite a bit of experience with towing cars and I think the best/cheapest/safest way is to rent a flat bed trailer from uhaul. They are only about $10-20 more than a dolly and are so much safer.

Oh that'd be bad... The straps give out? The Dolly is $228 and the Auto Transport is $457. Huge price difference. There's pretty much no other option for me but Uhaul where I'm at. I'm trying to find anyone I can who might have a Dolly or Transport I can borrow for a week.

Yeah so I say screw it :-P. I'm gonna get the Auto Transport. It dropped $40 too. Question though!
Brakes... What brakes does the Uhaul Auto Transport have? Does it have the built in brakes that don't connect to my truck? (Surge brakes I think they're called?) Or do I need to get a brake controller to hook it to my trucks brakes?

It should have self braking trailer. check out the hitch on the trailer, with enough pressure on it the trailer should brake.
Very good choice getting a full trailer, couple hundred bux for saftey is worth more than thousands of dollars in damage!

Here's what a guy said to me "You can tow with the rear wheels up, however its not recommended. You do not lock the steering wheel, because if you do that you'll end up with a broken steering column lock. Those locks are not made to withstand the stress of towing. Its always best to tow with the front end up."
Others have said make sure to lock it or you'll fish tail around.
Anyone with experience know for sure here what to do?

You unlock the steering wheel and tie a rope or something similar to the steering wheel with the other end secured to something solid on the car. This way you don't put strain on the lock, and the steering wheel doesn't wander around.

You guys also need to look up the date on threads you respond to.
And I think the OP has found a solution by now...
