scratches left after wet sanding and scratch x
So I had two paint chips I was repairing and as fate would have it, the obscure one by the passenger door jamb went great. The high-visibility one on the hood....not so much. The actual paint chip filled in nice, but i oversanded the spot a bit and although I did not remember sanding that vigorously beyond the paint chip where most of the touch up paint was applied, the swirls from the wet-sanding still remain after a couple applications of Scratch-X. Mind you, the overhead light has to hit the spot at an angle to see the scratches, but its irritating catching it from an angle when im walking around the car. So what are my options guys? Would the body shop have a reasonable ($$$$) solution?

You didn't really think that Scratch X would work after wet sanding did you? You need a buffer and a good polish to remove those wet sanding marks and dullness. A rotary would work wonders. You simply need to restore the gloss to that area. Watch this video and you'll see what I mean. If you want to learn all about proper detailing then join us over at Autopia.org.

Though a rotary is best to make short work of the sanding marks I would leave it to the pros. I would suggest a D/A polisher which is forgiving will still get rid of sanding marks like no tomorrow. After the sanding marks are gone go for the glaze and follow with a wax! done.

I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the forums here fellas. I'll admit it, I'm a body and detailing neophyte. This is my first new car that I have ever owned and I'm trying to alot of this stuff on my own with the input I receive off this forum. I'll probably have the pro's finish off the rest with the compound and buffer. Thanks for the input fellas....its just good to know that they should be able to undo it. It looks cloudy, just like the footage, obviously, so I'm hoping they should be able to buff it out. Thanks again.

Learjet35, since you like to do things yourself and you care about your car, I would strongly suggest checking out "Autopia.org". You will not believe what you can learn about proper detailing over there. Once you understand how to properly wash, clay, polish & seal paint, you will be able to make almost any car look brand new. Check out what my friend did on this Infinity G35 that had been fully wetsanded so it was beyond dull. Talk about bringing back the gloss. Now this guy is a professional but you'll get to see how polishing NOT waxing is the key that the average Joe is missing and that's why most cars on the road look like crap. Even though this car is black, notice that there are NO swirl marks or cobwebbing even in FULL SUN. It's had a full paint correction. Also notice how the wetsanding got ride of the orange peel. The picture below the link shows another example of what polishing does.
