Default Has anyone welded their exhaust hangers in?

So my exhaust hangers keep rattling because the holes that the bolts go in are kind of stripped, so my question is has anyone welded in these hangers to the frame. Any negatives on doing this? and how much would an exhaust shop charge to weld up four of these?

well the downside of having them welded on is that you can't adjust them and you can't switch out to a different exhaust without taking it back to the shop.

why wouldn't u be able to change your exhaust. i was just talking about the hanging bracket things that the muffler hangers attach too..not the muffler itself...

If you weld in the muffler brackets how are you going to take your muffler off? Answer, you can't, take a look under your car and look at the hangers on your muffler and you will see that the hangers face in opposite directions from each other and the hangers them selfs are quite long too boot. If you could not take off the brackets so you could slide the hangers out how would you get them out and new ones put back on?

its not a good idea. with some exhaust systems you need to remove some brackets to install some types of exhaust parts. just use a thread tap to repair the threads on the stripped hole.

The tap you can pick up from any hardware store. Just take in the old bolt from the brackit and tell them your problem and they will get you what you need.

You might have to drill and re-tap to a bigger size depending on how bad the threads are. Remember...1 turn in, 1/2 turn out.
