Default Who uses Mobil 1 10W-30?

I am going to switch to Mobil 1 and got this viscosity. Any users (long term preferred) chime in. Thanks in advance

I haven't yet, but it's what the engine builder told me to use. Actually he told me to use that viscosity in either Torco, Amsoil or Mobile 1. I will probably get the mobile 1 full synthetic and do an oil analysis when it's done.

5w30 here - you don't live in a cold climate, do you?

yes, along with the newb, how does viscosity translate to oil title again? and also, what oil is effected by the cold weather?

Viscosity measures a fluids resistance to flow. The first number represents the viscosity at a cold temp and the second number represents the viscosity at operating temps.

10w30 (multi-weight oil) = 10 weight when cold and 30 weight at operating temperature. I personally prefer a 0-5 cold weight, flows better at startup. Being that you're in a mild climate like CA you should be fine.

A multi-weight oil is an oil formulation that acts as if it has two different viscosities, depending on the temperature. At the lower test temperature (40°C), it flows as the first number would indicate, and at the higher test temperature (100°C), it flows as the second number would indicate. This multi-weight nature is made possible by the addition of long-chain polymers to the oil, which are coiled up when cold, but straighten out when hot, and thus change the flow characteristics of the oil. Thus a 10w40 oil will flow like a 10 weight oil when at 40°C (fairly thin), but will not thin out more than a 40 weight oil would when hot (100°C). A 10w60 oil will flow like a 10 weight oil when at 40°C (fairly thin), but will not thin out more than a 60 weight oil would when at 100°C.
