Newbie Question about SLP Loudmouth Exhaust
OK, first of all, let me say my 06 Mustang GT is 100% stock except for the SLP Loudmouth exhaust (my first mod on this car). It is also a 5spd.
Anyways, when I am driving down the road, at certain RPM points I hear a rattling. I can't figure out if it's an exhuast rattle or if it's something in my car rattling...and it is driving me crazy. It sounds metallic, yet you would think if that was the case that when I hit bumps, I would hear it too, but not always. It only happens at certain RPMs, mostly between 1-2k RPM, especially when decelerating (i.e. RPMs are dropping). It is almost like the exhaust note hits the resonant frequency of something in my car and something (whether it's the exhaust or something in my car) starts rattling like crazy. If I vary the RPMs even a little bit, the rattling seems to go away.
So, does anyone know what this could be? Is it just something I have to live with and is this what they call drone? Or is my exhaust loose (and if it is, how come there is no rattle when I go over bumps or at other RPMs?). Any input would be appreciated.

I think I know what you are talking aout. I had the same thing happen to me when de-accelerating but at about 3k rpm and lower it would make that rattle noise.
I took two steps. One is I tightened the clams to the point of ( they won't come off ever unless an impact gun is used lol ) and I filed down the hangers a bit. One of them touched slightly when the pipe got hot.. sound never came back..

does it rattle at a stop, when you rev it? if so your exhaust is loose somewhere. check the hangers they might be loose. if not have someone else stand by the car or ride next to your car and listen to where its coming from.

it sounds like it could be the exhaust clamps. I would start at the rear of the car checking all the hardware & clamps first and just work your way forward.
I had the same thing happen with the clamps on my flowmasters and I ended up just running the car down to a muffler shop where they installed some better clamps with an air socket wrench...have't had any issues since
