Now what? Any advice?

Now what? Any advice?
So, long story short, I hit a semi trailer. Honestly, it was one of the scariest things that has ever happened to me (and I've almost died a few other times). That is where my predicament begins. I have full coverage on my car and there was no damage to the trailer. As much as I love(d) her, I don't ever want to drive her again.
Given the circumstances, I would like for the car to be totalled. However, my insurance comp. along with the collision center seem to think that an 05 v6 is worth $12,900. In order for it to be a loss, repairs would have to exceed 70%. IMO, the car is worth $9,500 max ($6,650 is 70%). The estimate total is $5,834.
Knowing little to nothing about my options, I have some questions for someone who may have been in this situation. Can I demand that the car is repaired with OEM parts only? Can I get another estimate or do I have to use this place now that the estimate is done? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

you are allowed to get a couple of diff estimates done. sorry to hear about the accident and glad your ok. i see the snow on the grass in the background of the pic. ice?
and i believe it depends on the ins company as to if they use oem parts. someone with some ins expertise might be able to help a lil more.

Did you just get to close? Dude that sucks... but from what I see.. just looks like you need a new windshield, window and that quarter window and a little bit of body work and you will be good as new unless there is more damage...

No, I was trying to pass him. Not sure exactly what, I'm thinking it was a combination of the wind and a slippery spot. There's not much else damaged, but like I said, totalling it would probably let me keep my sanity.

first off, sorry to hear about the accident but I'm glad you're ok.
secondly, repairs are all up to your insurance company. I've had experiences in the past where a car insurance policy stated that the automobile in question is to be repaired with parts at the incurance companies discretion...which means the cheapest parts out there, even if it means non-oem. luckily, the body shop that was doing the work refused to do any repairs with non-oem parts (would've cost them more in labor to try and make them work/fit properly) and worked out a deal with us.
(this happened to my wife before we were married, when she had her own insurance policy)
