third gear grinding
hey guys,
my freind just bought a GTCS 2 weeks ago. every time he starts his mustang and drives it within the first 5 minutes, and when he switches to third gear, it makes a terrible grinding sound. it only does it for the first five minutes of driving after its been sitting out. it still has a factory waranty, but the shop is closed so we cant take it in yet. i think that it has something to with the startup, like maybe the engine is giving itself to much gas to warm up the engine and is causeing the flywheel the spin to fast, not allowing the clutch the mesh, but the thing is , is that is happens at low rpms, what u guys think?
thanks

its either the trans is cold (mine does the same thing until it is warm) or he has the 3rd gear synchro going out....my guess would be it is just cold and the trans needs to warm up before it shifts properly... from what ive read and researched this is a pretty common problem with our transmissions...

Could it be the gear oil? Maybe the level is too low and the sensitive third gear is just exaggerated by this?
Mine used to grind every once in a while, but with my Hurst shifter and with Royal Purple fluid it seems to have gone away.
Now I just need to fix the rear tranny seal leak and my stupid hurst rattle... haha
