Default Can I make my factory 07 GT/CS hood scoop functional?

By functional, I mean to let cool air into the engine.Or is it a complete waste of time?.

sure, just cut a hole in the hood and hollow out the holes in the scoop grill. shouldn't be difficult at all. of course, it won't do anything for performance, and you may have to clean the engine a little more often, but at least you'll be able to say it's "functional".

I plan on doing this mod as well, as I like the scoop, hate that it's fake, and can't see spending a ton of money on a shaker which provides the same amount of performance gain (i.e. little to none).

Well porschebreath, some tin snips would do fine....(LOL)
Seriously now, if you are really thinking of doing something like this, do it right and get yourself a Ram Air "Shaker System"...... Not cheap though, it's probably still around $ 800-$900 just for parts

I can just see this now functional hood scoop flying off the hood at 100MPH and breaking your windshield or scaring you right into a gaurd rail.

Bad plan, the part wasnt engineered to be functional, it was made for pretty.

Waste of time...
Concentrate your efforts where it counts.

It wasn't a bad idea though, just not rewarding on these cars...

Complete waste of time at best, and potentially detrimental. At least the real Shaker system has a drain system built into it. Your idea would dump water straight down onto the engine if driving in the rain.

Less water, the better...

I really wish the CDC Shaker system covered up the screw holes from the stock (non-functional) hood scoop...

I'd really like to get the shaker system but I'm not going to pay for the system AND pay to have the holes in the hood filled in and the hood repainted.

I dunno, I had an impala with a custom bolt-on scoop and hood cut open. had that beast in triple digits on more occasions than I care to think of and the scoop never came off, as the surface of the hood is actually a low pressure area (that's why real functional scoops sit high above the hood). also drove it through torrential downpours and amount of water that made it into the engine bay was negligible.

WMS Racing FTW.
www.WMSracing.com
Functional Ram Air and you can
keep the non-functional OEM scoop
to boot.

They make a mean hidden hood pin kit as well....
