Default K&N CAI - Polished Vs. Plastic - HP difference

so according to K&N,

the "K&N 69 SERIES TYPHOON COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM, POLISHED -- Provides Additional Power Up To 8.94 hp At 5207 RPM, 96%-99% Filtration Efficiency Rate, This Short Ram Intake System Is Built For Performance And Show,

While the...

K&N 57 SERIES GENERATION II FIPK COLD AIR INTAKE SYSTEM -- Provides Additional Power Up To 15.26 hp At 6000 RPM, 96%-99% Filtration Efficiency Rate,

So, Why the difference in HP? Is the Polished Aluminum one made differntly? Is it rougher on the inside VS. the Plastic one?

Anyone got an answer?

Thanks.

Get a JLT, C&L or Steeda from Bamachips or Brenspeed with their tunes. It is the best bang for your buck for your mustang!

+1 on the CAI & tune combo from Brenspeed or Bama.

Disregard the manufacturer's published HP #'s. They're useless and overated. I've read somewhere that "they" claim that the metal tube holds more heat from the engine bay than the plastic one does and that affects HP. If you ask me, I doubt you'd even pick up the diff on a dyno. And I doubt the material has much, if any, affect on the air flow or causes any kind of turbulance.

The answer is 'up to'. and a waste of $$ without a tune.
Get a real CAI that requires a tune and then the performance
will shine like a diamond instead of a lump of poop.
The metal intake tube would hold engine heat better
than the plastic one. Holding heat is kind of defeating
the whole ColdAir design IMHO.

if anything i think the metal would heat up easier

but its shiny, so that makes it better

the intakes are all about the same when it comes down 2 performance...the tuner is where your power is made...looking at bama tunes, breenspeed, and VMP should get u started...

Very little difference in performance between the CAI's themselves so pick a combo that looks good to your eyes and wallet. And you're incorrect... There isn't "...a thread here somewhere, ..." there's about a thousand.

Because the plastic transfers less heat, therefore more power!
