Widest tire on s197?

You guys confuse the sh#t out of me...
Legion, 25hp loss? Don't think so.
Tires/wheels are the most PITA to deal with when you don't have a reference point to start with...
Going wider and keeping the same diameter wheel is the challenge at hand, while getting the right offset. Tire places like Discount tire etc... have a chart that tells them the diameter of every tire size and the max tire width you can go on a particular rim, so they're the guys to consult for those issues. For the offset, you'll have to rely on the ruler.
I have 20x10s in the back with a 285/30 tire on a +48 offset rim.
They recommended 275 but I didn't want none of that, so I went 285 and should have gone 295 actually.
It's a biatch to get it right the first time...
Sometimes, I wish I owned a tire place.

The tire wutcanbrwndo4u selected had a too small circumference, it would cause his car to spin out and kill him but thankfully it would take long time to get up to the deadly speed because he wouldn't be able to get any power to the ground thanks to his gears being the equivalent of 4.60's.
Too bad we don't have a rolling eyes smiley.

I didn't want to say anything to not call him out, but yeah.
I'm not talking about width, I already talked about that, i'm not talking about a wide tire.
Also if you're measuring offset to help you prevent rubbing then it's probably going to rub every once in a while anyway and you should just go with a smaller tire.

^ bingo.
You know tires are some of the worst understood pieces of equipment on a car which is why I even rarely make decisions on them by myself. For this thread I talked to mike who works for Hoosier tire, he outfits 300 cars personally every weekend including drag cars some weekends.
I cannot stress enough how the average car modder knows less about tires than they do about picking a political candidate well. The best analogy though i've heard is that people pick tires exactly like guys from the 50s streamlined vehicles. In other words people pick what looks right, and not what is right. They then get the exact same results as people from the 50s in that most streamlined vehicles back then actually didn't cut through the air very well at all.
Anyway, it's obvious that this discussion is a lost cause, which was something I was trying to figure out with my last post.
The 25 hp figure isn't from me. It was from the top field tech of an entire tire company who picks tires for cars every day; according to him going from a 255 tire to a 315 tire in a 360 hp car will loose between 18 and 24 horsepower from the car.
The sad thing is though that picking the wrong streamlining or casting a vote that will work out worse can only function wrong, picking the wrong tire could cause an accident and kill you which sucks.
