Where is the USB drive located? In center console?
The USB connection should be inside the center arm rest lid. That’s where you plug in your thumb drive, Zune, etc.

Hello all. This is my first post and I have a question. I bought a 2009 Mustang with a Shaker 500 radio. My car came with the Sync system. Should I have received a manual with the car? I have no clue how to use the system. I looked at the website provided in this thread but it would be nice to have an official manual instead of trying to search FAQ's for answers. Thanks in advance.

I have it in my 08 Explorer. I dont have it in my 07 Mustang. A bunch of things depend on what kind of phone you have in order to make certain features work.
It is pretty cool, but with the short trips I take, not really all that useful. If I take a long trip it will be. The Mustang will stay sync-less... too much $$ to bother putting it in and I really rarely use the stereo at all anyway... I would rather listen to the zoom of the horses!

Thanks Boozshey. I do have all the stuff that comes in the little zipper pouch (Mustang manual etc.) Just nothing for the Sync system. I didn't even realize it was an aftermarket (dealer) installed item. I looked all through my owners manual wondering why it was not mentioned anywhere.

Quick google search lead me to this site and a lot of info! Thanks again.

Could you instal the sync in an 06 or are the required connection not in the harness?

09s for sure and apparently some very late 08s. Sync comes in the 10 but that’s another set of issues.

I am very interested in modding my 05 for Sync use. It is no problem to swap out the 05 head unit for an 09, but I will have to add in the other features like the ipod cable...

Please let us know if anyone has modded an 05-08 for Sync use.

Is your stereo the Shaker 500/1000? Can you read the Ipod playlists, artist info, etc on the small screen with no problem?
This is the only thing making me hesitate about installing the Sync in my 2009 as well.

I have an 09 with the Shaker 500 Sync equipped, yet I have Mobile Ease hands free and TripTunes for my iTouch. So as much as I'd love to hook it up, those two really void the real use for Sync. The TripTunes is great because you plug the iTouch/iPod into the plug in the center console, and you control EVERYTHING through the head unit. No problem reading playlists, you just have to scroll. It takes a little getting use to, but its awesome because once you plug in the iTouch/iPod - you don't touch it again!
