Default Rear Defroster "not all there"..

Maybe I've just had bad luck, but almost every car I've owned has had a few "stripes" of the rear window defroster that don't heat up. This results in portions of the window remaining iced or fogged up...

Is there a cure to get the broken ones to work, or does the whole thing need to be replaced?

Most auto parts stores (Pep boys definitely will) carry a rear windshield defroster repair kit. It contains a conductive type of "paint" that gets used to reconnect where the wire on the OEM defroster is not working. Only sucky thing is if you have tinted glass you will need to very carfully trim away the tint covering the broken part of the wire to do the repair.

I have the same problem, like two lines that don't work. I have tinted windows to, so I haven't really looked into getting it fixed. Might check out that repair kit though.
