taskmaster, I completely agree with your feeling about corvette owners. It is the one area of corvette ownership that I despise. I belong to a few corvette forums and I take a LOT of heat when I start praising the Mustang. Seems the corvette elitists can't appreciate anything but their precious vettes. That's why I spend most of my time here. Mustang owners are much more down to earth, friendly and helpful. I have met a couple of nice corvette enthusiasts but they are few and far between. On another note, I really don't think that corvette vs mustang is a good comparison anyway. I see the mustang as a muscle car while I see the corvette leaning more towards an exotic with it's low, wide stance. Apples and oranges IMO. Not better, just different. I get just as many thumbs up in my mustang as I do in the Z06. In fact, maybe more in the mustang. But I also get more people wanting to race me in the mustang. That hardly ever happens in the Z06. When people get right up my *** in the vette, they quickly back right off. If there is one thing the Z06 has in a big way it is street credibility.

Wow guys....really. Talk about comparing apples and oranges!

GT500 Z06
$$$ $43,125 $73,925 (Right now GT500 going 3K under sticker)
Rear Gears 3.31 3.42
Weight 3920 3180

I can promise you that for the extra $30K that it would cost for a new Z06...even half that...My GT500 would STOMP a Z06, modded or otherwise! Dollar for Dollar the GT500 would always win.

Distant.Soldier, sorry to disagree but at 4000 pounds your GT 500 is not going to perform like my Z06 weighing 900 pounds less. Being much lower to the ground, the Z06 will out handle your GT as well. Please remember, the Z06 is competing against and often beating the Lamborghini Gallardo and the Ferrari F430. These cars cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Moreover, you can buy a very nice Z06 with very low miles in the forties now since the prices have dropped SEVERELY. I have driven both the GT 500 and the Z06 and let me say that I love both cars for different reasons. But remember, the Z06 can do everything the GT 500 can do but not vice versa. Sorry, but it's true. Maybe you missed this video link earlier and this is the KR model: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIPBP-9TUnQ

The GT500 motor is pretty capable if modded and really doesn't take that much.

apples and steaks......i would have to agree that the gt500 is an American muscle car, but the z06 is an exotic......the video sums it up very well......for the price, the kr is beat in every comparison to the z06.....900lbs difference!!!!(and one of the best v8's in the world)....shelby was not even meant to run with the z06....yes, add 15-20k on a gt500 and let the z06 spend 3-5k the gt500 still comes up short.....i own both a vette(c5) and an s197 gt...i like them both, but shelby and ford can't "truly" compete .......

Throw in 15 Turbonators and 4-5 Tornados and the KR and Ford may have a chance....IMO

Just saying LOL

GT500s RULE!!!

Re: GT500 motor - yes, probably not, and too bad it adds so much additional weight over the wrong wheels. With 56% or more of the weight up front, the engine promises more performance than street tires can deliver.

This is indeed an apples & oranges discussion. For the same total $ outlay it probably is possible to arrive at a dragstrip-quicker GT500. Maybe even likely. But at that point it will be a pretty single-purpose car that gives up a little (or maybe a lot) in just about every other category of vehicle use or performance.

"Specialist" vs "jack of all trades", I guess.

This is like comparing a scalpel to a sledge hammer IMO. They're all nice cars, but purposed very differently.

yes you are right those cars where never ment to compete, covette is a sports car and Shelby is a Musclecar, the Mags compete those be cause of the HP nothing els, BUT we all know the Mustang looks better.

I hope to find a Shelby for about 35.000$ next year.
