Hold on to the V6 and order a Shelby GT 500 when they come out.

I agree with the other posts, if you can afford it then go for it! If you go test drive that car you will want it for sure!!!

Thanks for the advice everyone. The final decision is going to turn on my ability to get my wife on board since the V6 was a birthday gift from her. Even if I have to pass, I will have the GT in the near future one way or another.

And, think about this... you have to pay the sales tax AGAIN! Ugh!

Don't you only have to pay the taxes on the diff between the trade-in and the new car? And BTW, if you decide not to trade it in, do you get to even do that? I don't think so but to tell you the truth I'm not sure.

If you transfer the tags on a trade in you will not have to pay property taxes until they are due on the original car tag.

Daniel60,

I was talking about the sales tax, not pp tax. Do you know what happens with the sales tax if you trade it in vs selling it on your own?

I'm in MO BTW..

My guess is if you trade in the vehicle, you will only pay the sales tax on the difference in value between what you buy the car for and what the trade in value they gave you. However, if you sell it on your own and don't trade in, I think you will have to pay the full sales tax rate for your county/city on the new car. That's a guess.... Corrections?

NCMustang,

I see you decided to stay with your v6 vs the upgrade to the GT. Was it hard not to give in and buy the GT? My wife just gave me the look from hell when I told her I was thinking of getting an 06 GT.

Also, I found this on our Dept of Revenue site for MO to calculate your sales tax:

You pay sales tax on the sale price of the vehicle, LESS any trade-in or rebate. Subtract these values, if any, from the price of the vehicle before you enter the price in the calculator.
