The stock intake is capable of taking in more air. If its getting out faster the engine will adjust a little but thats why you need a tune to maximize the HP.

AB's add very little HP....LT's with aftermarket H/X pipe open up HP that the stockers restrict!

Exactly. It's all the crimped bends and abrupt bends that really kill horsepower (I think back pressures the correct term?) so anything you can do to get a smoother flow will help your car perform more efficiently
