Default Whining noise...worried

I was revving my car up the other day because a friend wanted to hear my exhaust, and when it's going down in rpm's I can hear something whining. I popped the hood and had him rev it up, but I didn't hear anything from the engine bay. Is it just my gears even though the car is in neutral? I have the stock 3.55's. Thanks!

Not the gears. Is it a whistle or a whine type noise? Could be the clutch...

when the car is in neutral, the items
that are spinning are:

crankshaft
pilot bearing
slave cylinder throw out bearing
transmission input shaft

If I had to guess for the grand prize, I'd go with throw out bearing.

I always hear whine when the engine whines down. Always have. Doesn't sound too loud or out of place - at least in my case.

My guess would be the timing chains whining on the gears, my whines too, I think it sounds kinda cool

I would have to go out on a limb here and
suspect the serpentine belt tensioner as
the noise maker. Do a noise check on it.
They seem to be going south at an alarming rate.

Sure that the wife wasn't in the passenger seat? That could make some whining sounds!
