You have to start from scratch, like Marc (modaddict) did.
Dumped about $20K in the drive train. Block, tranny etc... everything has to go.

GT500!

When I pay off my GT I'll be seriously thinking about one myself.

It would depend on how much more the payments are and how fast ur looking to go. A properly built (stock motor) GT can go as fast as a stock GT500. However there is MUCH more potential in the 5.4 4V motor then a 4.6 3V

I think you should keep the GT and mod it more...

Way too many people are lookin at the GT500s and saying resale, lets face it guys, they will NEVER be worth as much as the 67s. People drove those cars, they wrecked them, now theres not many in existance so theyre worth a lot of money. Now everybodys looking to cash in on the fortune in 20 years and its not there because there will be too many in existance. And even if that was the case, then you have to worry about what mods can be done to it because deviating away from stock will hurt the resale.

No way, but if he's seriously considering buying one he would probably be happier in that than in his s/c GT later down the road.
45k cobra + $2000 = 600 crank

24k gt + $3000 saleen ebay supercharger + $800 frpp cams + $200 Clutch = 560 crank

this is the BEST situation in favor of the GT500, it just gets worse from there.

Upgraded further?

above cobra + $4500 upgraded supercharger = 725 hp

above gt + $1900 stroker kit + $3000 transmission = 670 hp (gt wins (obviously))

Upgrade further?

second above cobra + $4000 in many various parts = 900 hp

second above gt + $3000 in many various parts = 780 hp (gt wins due to aftermarket transmission here)

Total Spent?

More on the GT like I said.

Considering both the car and the mods though:

$55500 on the cobra
$36000 on the gt

And now residual value:

Assuming we use the Carrol Shelby dying logic to equalize the two cars, this means that assuming the cost of ownership was only 5.5k over 6 years more for the gt500 shelby would have to have a 10% chance of dying to statistically make purchasing the GT500 rational, assuming that him dying causes the GT500 to appreciate 55k and that he also does die by the time of sale.

5.5k also does seem to be the going rate for owning a gt500 over a gt for 6 years in terms residual estimates to judge this and here's the thing though it is unlikely that the Shelby would have a minimum of 10% chance of dying by the time of the car's sale or that the gt500 would even go up in price very significantly in that case.

so. the gt500 is terrible and that's before you take into account it's handling but before you consider how much it's appearance mods are worth not to mention the nameplate's worth.

the part in red takes the lesson in Eagle Stroker's post which isn't on the subject i'm considering though.

Do what you want, it's all about the same here.

Hey Legion, you're not a Cobra fan, we fukking get it!!
YOU'RE STILL WRONG!!!!

You're not gonna get a $36K modded GT to the 700hp and hold more than 2 passes without blowing things up!!
Ask the people that tried it.

And BTW, for less than $50K a Cobra gets 600 at the wheels not the crank
Also, $1900 for a stroker kit on the GT?? Who's doing the install for that price, the trunk monkey?

We all know the Cobra will be slightly more expensive in the end but that car is still an investment.
The GT on the other hand...

legion - pulley swap and tune gets you 500RWHP on a GT500 for maybe $500 that's pretty cheap IMO
