Are 4:10s Too Much for an '05 GT Auto?
My GT is bone stock and I'm contemplating an FRPP Power Package (CAI, Mufflers, Flash, etc) and then a gear change. I hear some say that there is little difference going up from a 3:31 to a 3:73; conversely I'm concern that a 4:10 might be too tall.
The car receives 75% city/suburban and 25% highway use. I would like to use the engine's power band wisely/completely, but I'm torn between the 3:73 vs. 4:10.
I'd like to hear from some automatic GT owners with either of these gear sets..let me know what you think. I'd like to know of any regrets as well.
Thanks

4.10s and don't look back. i had them for a bit and the higher rpms on the expressway were a little off putting, and it was my understanding that 3.73s were a better fit for my powerband.
4.10s is right on for an auto GT IMO.
what size rim and tire are you running?
*edit*
im assuming stock means stock size rims too. answered my own question.

I also think 4.10's are a little much for an auto unless you are going to the track all the time. I was very happy with my 3.73's N/A but may go back to stock 3.31's to load my turbo's better. If you want to get an idea of what the 4.10 would feel like on the highway just take overdrive off and your rpm's will be close to 4.10's with overdrive.

A friend of mine has an 05 Auto w/4.10s and a K.B. This car is his daily driver. He drives about 30 miles to work. Only downfall is he is running over 8LBS of boost, so he needs drag radials for a d/d and slicks at the track. His d/d tires are M&H 325/50/17.

Pro 5.0 makes some great 3.90's. That would be my choice.

I'd re-think the FRPP power pack. I'd go with a CAI/SCT/tune pkg from Bama and some boomtubes. 1. I'ts probably cheaper. 2. more aggressive.
There's about a 3000 rpm from 3.31 to 3.73. Tires at the stock height of around 27".
3.31 - 75mph = 2200 rpm (approx)
3.73 - 75mph = 2500 rpm (approx)
That said..if I didn't drive it so much on the freeway...I'd have gone 4.10's cuz I don't see FI in the near future.
