How much weight should I put in the trunk?

Whatever the typical dead body weight is...
Anything less than 100 #'s is probably useless. It's been a long time since I've had to do that (have owned 4x4's for 20 years now plus moved a bit more south recently!) but I'd say at least 150.
If you MUST drive your Stang in snow, then hopefully you've replaced the stock garbage rubber with something more suitable for your weather.

150#
Everybody's gonna say different, but I think that would work without overdoing it. Anything will help. Just try different weights and see what works for you. I'm in Erie and I put four or five 70# bags in my truck to keep weight back there.

Not that you want to spend extra money but I know how you can get thru the harshest winters with absolutely NO EXTRA WEIGHT. Put on some Michelin X-Ice 2's. My winter car (below) is a GT with a 93 tune and 4:10's and my car goes thru snow and ice like a 4X4. The secret is the softness of the tire. Moreover, because they're so soft they are the absolute quietest tires I have ever driven on and I've owned 50 cars! I speak from experience as we've already had over 2 feet of snow in the last month. Like all Michelin's they are pricey but worth every penny.

I have about 120 pounds of sand bags over the rear wheels (one on each side) with bridgestone blizzaks on my '08 GT and for the most part it's done pretty well this season, and we've been covered with snow and ice pretty much all winter. The blizzaks were around a grand for set of 4 though.
