Buy Leftover 2008 GT or Pre-Modded?
I'm WICKED EXCITED... just accepted a new job at MUCH better salary plus HUGE sign-on bonus..THEREFORE:
Even though I thought my mind was made up to buy a pre-modded GT this Spring.. I stopped @ a dealer's lot last night after they were closed and discovered they STILL have this 2008 Grabber Orange GT with black rally stripes (LOVE that look.. it's got ME written all over it!) and started wondering how LOW they'd go considering the Auto Industry & Economy, etc.
The MSLP as outfitted is 32K, which we all know is a JOKE nowadays... I will be going there to check it out over the weekend to ask for their BEST deal. Can you guys give me an idea what kind of deal that I might get away with?
I figure it's gonna be tuff for them to sell this 2008 car because of the economic conditions, plus it's been on their lot for over a year, and on TOP of that it's a color only a "racing nut" would want! They may be ready to DUMP it at a ridiculous price..?
What do you think are the Pros/Cons of buying a NEW STOCK 2008 vs. buying a pre-modded GT? Keep in mind, I'd want to mod the car with a MINIMUM of:
Lowered with shocks/struts/panhard/LCA
CAI/Tune/Exhaust
Short-throw Shifter
3.73 Gearing
I know I'd find an '06 or '07 pre-modded with all that and MORE for under 20K, so would getting the NEW one and spending my (FUN) time and (not so fun) money modding it be CRAZY?

I'd go for the new one. Especially with the 2010's coming out, they are going to want to unload it. I would think you should be able to get it for less than $25k, without a doubt (I paid $24k for my 2007 GT Premium in 2007). The benefits are that you will get a lower interest rate on a new car, you'll have a longer warranty, and you'll know the car was never abused (until you abuse it)!
Let us know what you do! Good luck

I would shoot for a deal on the new '08... especially with these cars, you never know how the previous owner treated it!
Plus a full warranty, the fun of modding and putting on the parts YOU want. Along with more than likely a ton of deals on the 05-09 parts with everyone parting there's out to get a '10! I have already benefited from several of these "back to stock sales"...

I bought my 08 GT Premium (sticker 30,500) in december of 07 for 25K OTD. You should not have to pay any more than 25K OTD, or if you are good, you can probably get them down to 22-23. Just remember, tax, title, and tags is 1-2k, so when you get a price make sure its OTD.

I'd go with the '08, you get to pick what/when mod's you want. Also you know its never abused, and I'm sure you could work a sweet deal. Plus you can't beat that new car smell, its been over a year and I still have it in my car and I love it. I love when people get in and say, "did you just buy this?"

go for a used s197. the more money you save, the more money you have to mod. around my parts there is a 06 s197 w/ foose 20's only 4k miles for 19k. i'm sure you can find something like that around your area too.
