The best rear blackout panel
#14
A few folks have done it on their car already.
I have the Honeycomb one from SHR because it has the most retro look of all of them.
The CDC would be the best if it had the cut away hole for the faux gas cap IMO.
Maybe I'll make one...

i have the magnet, got it off ebay for $25, works fine, just let it sit by a window to unroll, then put it on, i don't clean my car with it on, it only takes a sec to take it off and put it on, looks just like the stripes i have

and constructed like a hollow core door.
This would make the faux fuel cap sit down
inside the CDC panel. It would be a cleaner
install if the faux gas cap were applied to
the top of the panel with the ribs removed
to allow it to mount flat onto the panel.

I have been eying the 3D Carbon blackout panel, but it is really pricey and it has to be painted or you can buy it from some vendors pre-painted in matte black. One benefit of having a panel as opposed to just painting the car is that it will fill up the recess between the taillights and you will have a more continuous look to the rear end of the car.
Also, I have read bad things about the magnetic one as well, so I have opted not to deal with it. The magnetic ones that I think about also look really glossy/shiny and that is not the look that you or I am wanting for our cars.

The CDCs are almost an inch thick
and constructed like a hollow core door.

Helpful it is
I wasn't too far from your idea, witch is a good one BTW.
I actually was thinking of using the the faux cap built in ring of the SHR and cut the CDC hole bigger in order to incorporate it so the ridges wouldn't be against the faux cap.
A little bit of work and I'd be ruining a SHR panel (maybe a CDC as well lol) I know, but it would be a cleaner look and exclusive if done right.
What do you think?

I'm going to drop by a couple of local shops to get a quote on having mine painted. I agree with the Cobra guy. I've gone through 2 panels already. The magnetic ones don't last over time.
Any idea about what it should cost to have ths done? I want to make sure I don't get ripped off.
Thanks for any assistance!
