I think I know what 5lb piece of metal you're talking about. I found it when I was changing my exhaust to the GT takeoffs I'm running now, I was like "WTF is this??" LOL needless to say I got rid of it. I got my other hanger with the dual exhaust kit from Ninosport.

Yeah you're absolutely right. Late '07 and up. I can't even begin to speculate their motivations for adding an awful, malformed hanger in the middle of '07...

My stock exhaust and mufflers didn't even look parallel, come to think of it. Now that I've replaced my hanger, my LM pipes are in virtually identical positions.
