what kind of protectant are you using? i use either black magic's tire shine stuff, or the meguiar's hot shine and have had pretty good results with both

I use Armor all tire foam to clean the tires up when they start to brown. Thats what its for, then you can throw on some tire shine afterwards.

Yea use the Armor All foam 1st to get all the dirt and whatever else is trapped in the tire because if you use the shine stuff first, you're just gonna like seal all that in the tire makin it tougher to come out.

+1
Foam cleaner and a little elbow grease with a stiff brush before
shining them.

To remove the old grimey dirt infused tire shine I go to the $$$ Tree and get some orange cleaner (which cuts through the grime like butter w/o damaging the rims) and a stiff plastic bristle brush. No need to buy an expensive product just to get the grime off. That's easy. I would rather spend the $$$ on a long lasting shine product.
