Default 07 GT Parking Brake SNAFU

I always set the parking brake when I park my car in the garage. However, when I set it last night, it was around 23 degrees outside, and the morning after it turned out being around 11. I noticed that when I released the parking brake that it felt as if there was no tension and sure enough, even with the parking brake released, my rear wheels were locked up. I eventually managed to hammer the spring back into place, but as soon as I pulled the parking brake, the same thing happened; the spring was stuck in the tight position with the handle released. Is this a normal thing with a quick fix, or should I be taking my car to the local Ford dealership?

It has been happening longer than that. I have had it on two of the trucks that I drive, but not my stang (doesn't see winter). If you drive when it is wet and cold out then it may freeze the brake up, just throw it in gear instead.

That is a very common problem on big trucks in extream cold. Most drivers will cut the truck off and leave it in gear or chock the wheels rather than use their parking brakes. I have an old air brake truck that I use for hauling cars to shows and the brakes froze on it once when I went to Iowa to pick up a parts car. It was around 8 or 10 degrees at the time.
