Default is this a rip off? cams and dyno

my local tuner is charging me $477 to install some cams and $450 to tune the vehicle after the install. just seems a little high almost 1g. also where is the best place to buy cams either the nsr comp cams, thumper, or frpp hot rods? do i need phase limiter with all these cams?

The FRPP cams do not need anything extra, work with stock valve train and phase adjust. Those prices dont seem bad at all. I was quoted 420 install but more like 600 for tune. Where you at?

I paid $700 for cams (sutton hp), $500 for install and $500 for a dyno tune (they also traded my SCT out for a Diablosport programmer, which was required for the same price).

That price sounds about right...

Oh... I see your car is an 05'. They had a lot of problems with the early model phasers.. I think they were revised to a stronger one in 06'.

I've seen broken phasers after cam installs on 05's. you may want to contact Ford and get some latest revision phasers to install along with the cams.

you won't need limiters but I would suggest upgrading your cam phasers along with the cams.

thanks for the tip about the cam phasers. but i don't think im gonna do the cam thing, seems too expensive for 25whp. probably just buy nitrous.

Just get a canned tune it costs $45 vs $450 and will be MUCH better. Nitrous sucks, there is no reason to do it. Also it's more like 30 rwhp. If you have to buy a tunner just consider it an investment towards future mods.

The dyno tune is your problem. $1100 total for 35.3 crank hp, is good and what you should be paying.

wow that horrible.. if you get the nsr, which is what i got, i got about 25rwhp... my shop only charged me $377 for the install and $150 for the dyno... and the cam ran me $644... I wouldnt pay that much if they are going to charge so much for a dyno... and a can tune isnt worth it with a cam, since not all cars will react the same way, so you will want a dyno...
