No sense buying a new battery until you determine if it's a bad battery or if you have the dreaded battery drain issue. If it's the latter, the same will happen eventually to the next battery.

the battery for a mustang (same for gt and v6) is a very particular kind and is sometimes hard to find (believe me already went through this!!! at a neighbors house, thank god) but i got a battery from auto zone and it was 100, but it was just one to put in to get going again. the kind of optimas that u want to get is the red top, some stores will say that "only the yellow top will fit ur car." bull, the yellow is deep cycle, not good for cars, the red top is the one that you want because they are the normal kind.
It was hard as crap to get my new one in, and the red tops are even larger, so youll hav to make a new brace to hold it in, but its well worth it, ill get one as soon as this one goes bad.
you know the one from the factory is lead acid, try adding some water first to the 6 compartments! Then charge it and see what it does!

This is my opinion. Ford may have a different opinion.
If your original equipment battery is less than three years old, becomes discharged, you get it recharged but it will not hold the charge, then it is defective you you should receive a replacement under warranty.

if you can jump the car off, go out and drive it around for about 20-30 minutes and it should recharge it self.....if it doesn't, then go out and buy a new battery.
when it comes time to replace mine, I'll be going back with an Optima

If you have ever owned one you would not think it was overpriced. I had one in my 1999 Expedition E.B., when I sold the Expy I removed the Redtop and but the battery from new 2005 Expedition E.B in the old one and the Redtop in the new Expy. That battery had NEVER given me any issues at all and I just sold the 2005 Expy last year for the '05 Mustang GT. When this battery dies i will DEFINITELY buy a RedTop Optima to replace the factory battery.

Driving for 20-30 minutes will come no where close to recharging a dead battery. It would take hours of driving to bring a dead battery back to its full charge state. Putting it on a good charger overnite is the way to recharge it.
