Default Need Help Figuring out how to get interior pieces off?

Hey guys,

I am going to have some carbon fiber interior work done and need to remove some pieces to send to the guy that's going to be doing the work, like this thread:

https://mustangforums.com/forum/s197...finishing.html

So, here is what I need help with:

1. How do you remove the steering wheel? How did you not set off the air bag?

2. How do you remove the plastic piece below the seats, the one where the seat adjustment handles are?

3. How do you remove the part around the door handle and lock button?

4. How do you remove the dash piece on the right? The one with the passenger air bag in it/behind it?

I just want to be extra careful and make sure I am doing this right, so I need some help.

The steering wheel especially scares me, I'm not sure how to get the air bag out? BUT as you see in the thread linked above, the steering wheel can clearly be sent in to have this done....

Thanks for any help!

Nick

Most items just pop off, the others all you need is a simple screwdriver. Take note that while that looks cool, it's not real carbon-fiber, it's painted on to make it look like it is.

Hey,

Thanks for the response. I know it's not real carbon fiber, real carbon fiber cost like 3-4 times as much.

Also, those parts I listed do NOT just pop off with a screw driver....especially the steering wheel and the right side dash pieces with the passenger air bag in it.

From what I have read, pulling the wheel is a piece of cake. Here's a link to a basic "how-to" from TMS, but essentially you just need to disconnect the battery for a about 10 minutes, then pop the 2 plastic plugs from the back side of the wheel, loosen the 2 airbag securing bolts & the airbag/horn comes right off, then just remove the wheel securing nut and the wheel pulls right off.

And here is the airbag removal doc from Ford as well.

I also just found this dash replacement option which includes all the Ford docs for pulling the trim. Think this should help...

Great thanks!

Now all I need to figure out is how to get the other 2 parts off, the piece around the door handle and the plastic piece around the seat with the seat adjustments on it.

Thanks again!

The part around the door handle and the buttons just pop off. I took mine off a few weeks ago for new speaker install.

Are we talking about the same piece? The one around the actual door handle that you pull to open the door and the one with the door lock/unlock button? I tried to pry mine off gently and it looks like it's one whole piece? I took the door panel off and it seems to be 1 piece glued in there....?

Are you talking about the plastic piece that's around the window up/down buttons?

If we are talking about the same piece can you go more in depth about how you got it off?

Thanks,

Nick
