I don't think he'd be getting it at 16, so I'd think that'd be more on the "planning" side of things
but I hear what you're saying.
Though for something to think about: The cheapest F/I you can get is a ~3500 tuner centrifugal supercharger, plus cost of install, etc. You'll be seeing $4,000 come and go.
I'm 19, and I'm just now completing my F/I dreams. I've been working my *** off to be able to afford it. I got my first job before I was 14, not necessarily for modding cars, but you get the idea.
It's my personal feeling that if you plan to mod your car, the only person paying for it should be you. Outside of small gifts, and such. I'll also say I don't have respect for someone whose parents pick up a power adder for them, I know someone whose parents have picked up over $4,000 in mods done to a car, I don't like that person for other reasons, but it doesn't help that he acts big on his parents pocket book.
Here's an idea that you might not have come across yet. If you pick up a 09 V6, test it out, see what you think, learn from there, and then when you're ready, think about trading up for a later model GT, 05-06 prices are only going to go down, if you and your parents feel you can handle the V8, find one you like and upgrade. You can use the time in between to save money for modding. Parents typically like this idea, and actually considering this idea shows some maturity. Initial insurance costs are down, you have some time to learn how to handle power. And it works out for everyone in time. Running right through to 450+ whp is just not something first drivers need to do, not without some serious performance driving courses. and some decent experience behind some moderately high powered cars.
Just something to think about.
