carbon fiber hood turning yellow
 Well i have been noticing my hood has been changing and tinting yellow a little bit. I knew that would happen because it sits out in the sun all day long, but i am going to get a car cover for the future.
Today i installed carbon fiber mirror covers and i could see the difference was even worst. What can i do to get the hood back to non-yellow lol. |
I thought these hoods were cleared so this would not happen? I have heard of this problem before but not sure of the fix. I thought prevention was better in this case but could be wrong.... hope it gets resolved!
Pics of before and after wold be nice too.....we love pics (good or bad) |
Needs to just be resanded and recleared

They don't come cleared.
The resin turns yellow after a while, it doesn't have UV resistant. If it was my hood, I'd wet sand it with 400 grit and put 3 coats of clear. Done. |
what a pain.......

Just do it right and paint it (I hate CF hoods).
|
Or maybe get a different hood....be brave....go different! Kiss!

It's something called a "gel-coat" right? At least that is what my seibon claimed. 1.5 years later and it looks as good as new (other than a few micro-cracks around the hood vents).
what is the difference between "gelcoat" and "clearcoat". I'm sure gelcoat is more durable, right? I park in a garage both at home and work so it doesn't see much UV. My car looks like it did the day I bought it. |
