Question Whats the difference? O/R pipe n a custom O/R pipe?

From what i know an O/R pipe is just the same as taking off your cats...Right?

So whats the difference from just removing your cats and having a piece of exhaust pipe welded on inplace of the cats?

Point being a way for us to try and save money...I went to a Muffler shop and they took off the cats welded a piece of exhaust pipe and even welded a nut to put the O2 sensors...and all for 40 bucks...

Now a friend bought an O/R pipe not sure of X-or H-pipe and spent around 150...plus 100 for install...so around 250...250 vs 40 bucks???? If it does the same thing you'd save yourself some money for more mods....
