you NEED to get a tune for it. Or you will run lean, which is a major problem. The tune is "tuned" for the CAI. You tell Brenspeed, Bama, VMP.... what mods you have and they "work" the tune for you. So, everything works together.

The XCAL and Diablo are probably equivalent if you're not planning on doing much "tweaking" on your own. The XCAL is a little more common but both are good. Brenspeed (and I think VMP) supports the Xcal. Bama supports the Diablo.

Yes^ VMP does use the Xcal. They also have a buy back program for any other hand held tuners

Doesn't the Livewire have the same capabilities as the Predator as far as tune customization goes?

bamachips actually supports both. if you have an automatic i highly recommend him, and if you can afford premium gas his 93 torque tune is AMAZING

The aluminum Street CAI will be more durable and look better. The plastic CAI will be durable enough and lighter and usually cheaper (I don't know if the Racer is actually cheaper).

I have the XCal 3 and use tunes from both Bama and Brenspeed. I would assume Brenspeed supports the Diablo tunes, but if they don't, then I would definitely get the XCal....

If i buy a used one (tuner) does it have to be 'unlocked' or can a tuner be used on different cars?

Yes. SCT charges $150 to unlock a tuner, Diablosport I believe will ONLY unlock a tuner if you can prove the car was totaled or stolen.

I just paid $150 to have the Livewire I just bought unlocked... The most annoying part is, that I know for a fact it takes about a minute and virtually no skill to unlock the tuners. The next time I find a locked tuner for sale really cheap, I think I'm going to pick it up and figure out how to do it myself.
