metallic rattle sound over 4000 rpm?

Hi,

I noticed a metallic rattle sound when I push it hard over 4000 rpm. I think it was like this since I got the car new but now that I have a CAI + tune I notice it a little more.
It also seems stronger when the car is cold.

It doesn't sound like it is part of the engine sound.

Is this normal?

Possibly engine knock?

If not, take a look at this thread: https://mustangforums.com/forum/2005...7-07-a-11.html
I have this problem. Only happens between 1800-2000 RPM's for me though. Also seems to go away after a while when the car warms up. According to the thread, it's a spacer plate problem.

I have a rattling spacer plate when the car is cold...

There have been metallic rattle sounds associated with the following on a few Stangs but seem to be more around lower RPMs (like 1500-2200):
  1. exhaust clamp looseness (even if they seem torqued properly)
  2. exhaust hanger to frame contact
  3. heat shield vibrations
There could be others, I'm sure.

Most likely coming from the shifter... the linkage is long & vibrations from the engine/tranny travel up to the shifter. Get under the car and grab the linkage and shake it... you'll hear where it's making noise. Once you've found it, think of a way to insulate it...

I would say spark knock from the tune. Sounds just lik it and i had the same problem. If you're running 91 tune try the 93 tune to see if it worsens. If it does it's definitely spark knock. Then call Brenspeed and they will give you a new one. That's how it went for me samer thing I was using 91 tune.

It is probably engine knock. I got it this summer running 93 octane brenspeed tune and jlt intake. Run a lower octane tune because knock will destroy your engine over time. Also, I wouldn't be going high rev's and high load on a motor until it is warmed up if you want to take care of your motor.

if it is a spark knock problem it should go away if I use a 87 tune and 91 octane gas right?
I thought about putting the 87 tune on just to see if it is a spark knock problem.

Doesn't the car have a knock sensor to prevent knock? I thought spark knock problems don't exist anymore in modern engines...
