4.10 or 3.73 gears in a V6 Auto?

I was thinking about trading my car in and buying a GT but I figured why not throw a supercharger, CAI + tune, new suspension, new wheels, new dash and a new rear end in my car instead. It is still cheaper.

What is better as far as gears go, I'm going to add the 8.8 rear end but I'm not sure what the difference will be between the 4.10s and the 3.73. I've heard there may be some issues with vibration or I made need a new drive shaft. How much of a difference is there between the ratios?

One last thing, my car s my daily drive car but my commute is only 12 miles. I'd also like to take the car to the 1/4 mile this summer. Any advice would be appreciated.

Since you want to go F/I (supercharger) I would say get the 4.10s, and if you're staying stock get the 3.73s. That's my take on it though, other people might chime in with their opinions.

That's the exact opposite of what people say for v8's. Are v6's really treated that differently?

If the v6 trans is the same as the v8, then I'd recommend 3.73's. With the super charger, how much power will you be making?

I say 3.73's because almost no one ever recommends 4.10's for a V8 auto.

go with the 3.73, remember you are at 3.23 or something i forget the exact number, the 3.73 will be a big upgrade, whereas a stick goes from 3.55 to 4.10 is just about the same as you going to 3.73,also stick with a good brand, frpp or motive are the best, richmond can whine a lot, and REALLY make sure you get someone to install them that you know does GOOD work

BEEN THERE!!!! SInce you will go going F/I and you have an automatic, do NOT get 4.10s, unless you will be running low boost and no aftercooler.

I'm running 373s with my automatic, and it gets through 1st gear to 2nd so fast, that the ecu cant keep up with proper shifting (working on it in the tune now).

Sure 4.10s would be quicker, but keeping it under control is hard enough with 373s...and that's with upgraded suspension and handling, too. I'm very glad I didnt do 4.10s, that'd have been too much. 373s are just right with our auto tranny :)

I have traction issues with a CAI+tune and 3.73s. I imagine it would be even worse with 4.10s. From what everybody says... 3.73s are the sweet spot for an auto.. FI or not.

cool, thanks. anyone else have experience with this situation?

I ordered the Yukon 3.73's, Yukon installation kit and FRPP Tlok last week. Doug at Bama recommeded the 3.73's for the Auto and the shop I'm going to recommended the Yukons.
