Best Street Gears
#12
If I was going to skip any gears it would only be 3rd on the way up. I'd be unlikely to downshift into second for driving through a corner that I did not have to come to a full stop for. Starting from a dead stop in 2nd even with 4.10's puts quite a bit of extra wear on your clutch because whether you realize it or not you do have to slip it a bit more.
Even though I don't have 4.10's in my '08 I have been through all of these situations and more in another car of similar weight where the overall gearing matched what's going on here so closely that you'd never notice any differences. It is a little higher-strung on the highway than necessary, but around town I've never found the different shift point speeds to have been a problem. The more you keep yourself aware of how hard you're making the engine work, the less a little "extra" shifting will bother you.
