Default Torque - Its Why I Love the Mustang

I had the opportunity to drive a friend's 2006 350Z today. The Mustang GT vs 350Z is a natural comparison:
- front engine, rear drive
- ~300 HP
- about the same weight
- similar 1/4 mile times
- similar price
- same front suspension,
- etc, etc

But what these stats don't capture is why we love american V8 muscle cars: TORQUE (and looks, etc). The Mustang has it, the Z doesn't - and what a difference it makes! The Z is just so....boring. You step on the gas and it goes about its business with no fuss, no kick in the butt, no smile on the face, its just blah. If I had never driven a V8 and didn't know what I'm missing I'd probably think the car is the cats meow. All the ricers who turn their noses up and foul mouths at American muscle are idiots and have no idea what they are missing - there is no substitute for torque.

Other than that - the Z is a nice car though. Much nicer than the RX8 for example (a golf cart has more torque than the rotary). Very predictable in a drift, nice handling, comfortable, etc.

Dont knock the rotary to bad while true it has no torque, My 95 RX7 is much more fun than my 08 GT

I agree TQ determines how fast you can get to top speed and HP determines what your max speed is (drag limited on these fat cars)

Looks are subjective, I happen to think the 350Z and 370Z are both great looking cars.

yeah i felt the same i loved the 350z but for me the mustang won because the compromise(no back seat and smaller trunk) was not worth making, because the car's performance didn't make up for it. Now say a corvettes performance makes that compromise a little more worth while. oh and a little off topic but Mach we got the same wheels(ignore sig) but mine are chrome and 8.5's on all 4corners, I think your car would look hot with the red inserts!

ive always wanted a 350z, just happens i got a killer deal on my gt so went with it. Every now and then i see a nice z that makes me wonder what might have been
But i still love my gt.

Now the 370z is another story... Not sure if i like the changes made, but i hear its a BEAST
