GET THAT OLD SCHOOL EXHAUST SOUND!!!
Ok, so I really don't know if this will work or not but I thought someone with the mechanical resources could give it a shot.
I know A LOT of us are dissapointed in the S197 exhaust note and it has been the topic of many threads. The number one theory I've heard attributed to the lame exhaust is that there are 3 valves per cylinder (basically the theory says that anything over 2 per cylinder kills the deep muscle-car sound). Well, didn't the later model Cobras and Mach 1's come with 24 or 32 valves? They sound MUCH better then the S197's. My theory isn't the number of valves, but rather where the mufflers are mounted.
I was thinking that if someone had the means, they could mount the mufflers (preferrably Flowmaster's) right behind the X or H pipe (which ever they happen to be running) and then run some custom pipes out the back.
Watch this video of an 09 Challenger with Flowmaster's and maybe you'll see what I mean. I'm sure the R/T Challenger's 5.7 liter has atleast 24 valves, and yet it sounds better as well. Again, I think it's because of where the mufflers are mounted.

Any feedback???

someone on here has flomaster 40's on their car but directly after the X or H. They said that it sounds alot better. ie: No raspiness, or pops. It might be worth a shot, and yes the 2 valves sound alot better.

the 3v mustang will NEVER sound like that or the new edges, even with the mid mufflers.
its just the way the motor is. it sounds good in a different way, but its never going to sound like that. pick an exhaust based on that good 3v sound rather than trying to get it to sound like something it's not.

Good theory, though I think about 28 people in the last year alone thought of it, too...

Ya, they don't sound quite as good as new edge, but still an improvement (especially the first clip of the white stang).
Thanks for posting the vids...
