I am thinking about flat black stripes, but how can they be painted on wouldn't they look raised?

They will look fine. I have no complaints although If you can have vinyl stripes not sure why you would paint on the matte black stripes. Only reason I painted mine was I figured there was no way they could stripe my car the way I wanted due to the curves in the hood etc. Even without a clear coat painted striped will not be cheap. I have pics in my photo album. They used Hotdor Black to paint mine.

i just did mine last weekend. the paint cost $90 the tape(you will need some 1/4 inch and what ever size you want to fill the stripes in with)and sandpaper (800 grit) cost $25.yes the stripe will look raised but it will not fade. i spent about the same amount as the vinyl would cost. it will take a few hours to lay out the stripes, and hour to sand (just scuff up the clearcoat) and an hour to paint. i only used two coats and it turned out nice.

i keep thinking about flat black vinyl stripes but don't want to screw up putting them on and regret it later.

Vinyl stripes can be removed in a couple years when you want a change. Paint? well...
