UDPS with aftermarket audio??
 

Id like the extra power but would it be a bad idea if im going to be running aftermarket subs and amps?? Im thinking if i really wanted to, i could buy a 40 farad capacitor and udps and probably be fine, but a capacitor that high is like $400 so its kinda not worth it unless im going for some serious bass, in which case i would add alternator power...

Anyone with udps have any trouble playing loud music while running ac on short 5 minute trips??

i would say a 1-2 farad cap max
but i would upgrade the big 3 wires first, alternator2 battery, battery2 ground... damn cant remember the third... huh ok well i am running oem shaker 500 and udp and no issues whatso ever and its useually cranked.
i dont know about others but the steeda does not affect charging
if your really concerned upgrade the oem garbage battery to an optima or better yet upgrade the alternator to a higher output
give it a go and alter the charging system from there as needed

Although I don;t have first-hand experience with UDP's, my engineering background and gut tells me that you should be fine providing you're not doing any excessive idling (more than 5-10 minutes sitting in traffic at a time w/o picking up engine RPM's) on a daily basis. Alternator output could drop below your electrical demands at idle (which isn't too uncommon on most cars anyway under heavy loads) at which point your battery will pick up the load. Although our starting batteries aren't designed for this, short duration non-starting type current drains won't significantly degrade a starting battery (unless it's one of the faulty Motorcraft OE batteries).

Upgrading the wiring as 07musclemustang suggests would certainly not hurt. Worse-comes-to-worse, an Optima (or any other brand for that matter) combination starting/deep cycle battery would be what I'd install IF I was having problems.
