Default Notchy WGW shifter

I have recently installed an MGW shifter on my '05 GT. I was surprised at how notchy it feels to me, especially after reading many threads stating that this was the least notchy shifter available.

I have it set to 8 turns for a shorter throw. If I adjust it to fewer turns (longer throw), does anybody know if the shifter will be less notchy?

Thanks,
Dino

The shorter the throw, the more notchy it gets.
Those are Physics, welcome to it.

mine is set at about 5 turns i believe. also you can raise the handle inside the car a little bit and angle the piece that the handle hooks to towards the passenger seat

I have mine adjusted about half way, however I do have the **** pretty low and like 5spd07gt said where the lower part of the shaft goes into the shifter, I have the bottom corner facing the passenger seat. It really had a nice feel too it, not that notchy at all. Enjoy it.

So, I failed physics in High School. don't rub it in.

Seriously though, how does short = notchy?

The leverage isn't there, the higher the **** and the longer the throw the smoother the shift.

yeah.... our shifters are "remote/linkage" type. shorter throw=less leverage on the linkage. mine's notchy too shhh-tock, shhh-tock. I'm set to ten turns almost all the way in. even though it's notchy it's still "smooth" unlike the hurst I had. getting that thing into gear required some muscle.

I don't think you're going to find a "shorter than stock throw" w/o being somewhat notchy. At least you can crank the MGW out to stock level.
