apply oil to cai filter after cleaning
#14
I usually clean mine every 5000 miles or so. My car is a DD so if it's a nasty salty winter or summer with alot of dust or construction I clean it more often. I have 2 I switch between but haven't oiled them since I first got them. This spring I'm just going to buy a new one...they don't cost that much.

I cleaned mine recently after the initial ~20,000 miles. It was relatively clean for that kind of mileage compared to the many drop-in filters I've replaced at 15,000 mile intervals.

I have the FRPP CAI, and I cleaned, then oiled it w/ the kit I bought from Steeda. I just oiled it enough so it looked like when I first bought the CAI. Very light spray. I wiped off the excess, and its been fine. That was 5 k miles ago.
BTW I called up the FRPP tech hotline about this, and the tech said do not oil the filter at all, just clean it and put it back in! Too many cases of contaminated MAF's, so no oil is better than too much that gets on the MAF, according to them. I feel oil should be on the filter, thats how its designed to clean the air, so I did it anyway. He also said clean at 50k mile intervals!!!

Grampa Stang is right. Use the oil sparingly. It doesn't take much. The object is to keep the filter from drying out and becoming brittle and breaking apart. My car is a DD so I have 2 filters that I can rotate and I am still on my first cleaning kit since 05. I only give filter one coat.
