Default MGW Shifter Question

Taco Bill did a great job writing up the install and you may be surprised that i actually have a question on how it works.

The link arm is replaced. What does the link arm do? I am talking about the stiff arm that we install to the transmission.

There are two rods. One of the rods connects to the bottom pivoting joint of the shifter which seems to be responsible for shifting gears. The second rod is a thicker rod that is clamped down in front of the shifter and is replaced by the MGW shifter. What is the thicker rod for?

then what is the point of the shifter rotating about the pivot that bolts into the car, i guess it is a way to align it properly with the transmission.

sorry, i am not explaining anything. Sorry it is late i guess. What i meant was why does the shifter rotate around the big black thick pivot that connects the flange with two bolts to the main shifter assembly. It seems to rotate about 15 to 20 degrees in either direction off the center.

I think I know what you're asking. The black box a the bottom of the shifter that is linked to the tranny is able to rotate slightly because it is a SS shifter and has a shorter arm (which you put your shift ball or w/e onto) so it need to have some play to let you select gears.
