I've done it and it works just fine. Its not recommended by manufactures cause the rim width won't allow a 275 to contact the road properly so theres no since in going that wide on a 8" rim.

It also depends on what tire brand you use.

Brenspeed is sells kit with 26x11.5x17 bias plys on the stock rims.

How did I know you would post that? That's a 315 on there, and as for the 275 I guess it depends on the series you choose. I ,however, would not run anything larger than a 255 on there.

I dont think it looks all that good. I run it, but only at the strip. no street driving.
too small diameter to begin with.

My fault, some reason when I seen 275's, 40's just popped into my head for some reason
But the 275/50's is the best fit on the stock 17"s in my opinion.
Not thinking clear.

What are your goals with the car.

If you are mostly straight line driving, then it would be fine. There becomes an issue when under hard turning, they taller the tire on a narrower rim allows for more sidewall flex and rolling over the shoulder of the tire. Therefore, there is a higher chance of tire failure/blowout.

And I'm now a fourth gear member, sweet!
