Bad Day - Big rig tire on interstate

Sorry to here about your truck tire experience jahudso2.
To all the people bashing retreads, retread tires are only a problem if you don't chech the air pressure in them, like any other tire. Atleast 80% of the tire chuncks you see on the highways could be reduced by checking the tire pressure with a gauge.

yup you betcha
I am a HD mechanic and usually one or more tires on every truck is underinflated by 10 lbs. and that coupled with unbalanced loads, poor maintance, and or suspension issues, air ride, brakes, ect can cause blow outs, happens all the time.
that being said as for retreads... yes they are as good as new as long as they are PROFESSIONALY treaded and mounted.
as for buddy again so sorry, but look at it as an opportunity to "upgrade" the look of your ride on the cheap. go through insurace and good luck bro

I apologize if I unfairly targeted anyone with my comment.
I will stick with my overall point though, that there's an obvious flaw somewhere in a system that frequently results in 20-30 lb (Just a guess on my part, I'm terrible at estimating weight) chunks of rubber laying in the middle of the highway, or worse, airborne.
Exactly where the responsibility for that flaw should land, I obviously don't know. But, the simple fact is, it puts lives at risk.

Thanks for the help everyone. The truck never pulled over and I never saw his license plate. I would have chased after him, but i heard the panel under the radiator cover scraping on the pavement and i thought it was either my front or rear bumper dragging so I pulled over immediately to minimize the damage. I still haven't gotten a chance to get under my car, but I will for sure get to it saturday.
