By any chance, are you pulling the trunk lid up pretty soon after opening it with the key, but letting it sit in the just barely open position for a long time when you use the fob? I think that the light comes on even when the trunk lid is barely open. There is a timer on the light to shut it off after, if I recall correctly, 30 minutes.

If the switch never turns off and the trunk lamp
when the lid is closed and secure with the latch,
the 30 minutes would time out and the next opening
would not change the state of the never turned off
trunk light switch.

I would suspect the trunk light switch first...

That problem does not exist with the OEM switch. I replaced the original radioshack switch I had used with the OEM switch and the problem wen't away. The oem switch is recessed and there is no way to accidentally push the buttonw with the lid closed.

I park my car in the garage and having a trunk switch in the glove compartment is a huge help. It saves me the trouble of going all the way in the house to get the keys if I need to put something in/out of the trunk.

Here's some preliminary pics of my install. Pics pretty much show which wire I tapped and where I grounded my other wire. I've decided to route the wiring into the armrest storage area and mount the ebrake access panel. I'll post pics of it once I'm done.

Well looks like TacoBill beat me to it....

Here's a TacoBill how-to on the trunk switch. I think this should be made a sticky.

I just tried it with my '06 GT and it didn't work.... I don't think white/pink is the right wire or something.... help? I'm using the factory Ford trunk release button as used on previous Mustang models...

It is the white/pink wire. Happened to me too. Look for the wire the other group of wires down there by the kick panel. It's there

+2...It is the white wire with pink stripe down by the kick panel. I got my switch from a salvage yard for free & installed mine above the hood release latch on the drivers side. It's a lot easier to get to and you won't have to worry about accidentally hitting it in the glove compartment.

haha I was about to post a "NM" because I was looking at the wrong set of wires just as you said. Long story short, I found the right wires using taco bill's instructions. Works great! I don't know why Ford cut corners on this... I pick up five other OEM ford trunk release buttons so my buddies can do it.... $2/ea at the salvage yard...and trust me there are plenty of wrecked sixers out there...
