How-To make your own OEM trunk release switch for about $15
I found this article on another board if anyones interested.

You can get the OEM button that Ford used on all their cars previous to 05 at your local Ford dealer. Here's the P/N# D3AY-19C542-A
2 16 gauge wires (1 of them only has to be about 10inches long. The other should be about 4ft.)
1 Terminal ring
1 T-tap
I'll be doing mine next week and I'll make sure to take some pics.

this is off topic, but has anyone else noticed that if you hit the trunk release button on the key fob, the trunk light doesnt come on. However if you use the actual key to open the trunk the light works.

even if the vehicle is upside down (not a mercury switch).
Can you imagine every Ford having mercury in the trunk lid.
Watch out enviroment....
It is good ol spring loaded mechanical switch activated.
The rubber booted item on the trunk lid.
Yes, its a switch under that accordian looking rubber weatherproofing boot.
To the OP, avoid yourself some trouble down the road and
avoid those "T" taps. Solder and adhesive lined heatshrink
for me just like the factory did. Ford dont use T Taps and
neither will I.
Also I have heard that the Cherod mod can cause your trunk
to open when not desired from too much pressure on the glove
box lid by passengers knees....

And if you shop around, some online Ford stores have the switches for <$6... but unless you are ordering other items at the same time or are local, I think the shipping would make them about the same price Leo posted

Why make your own switch from scratch when OEM trunk release
switches are still available for about $9, $6 less?
OEM MustangsUnlimited $8.95 + S/H
