Default Ford STOCK H.I.D. Questions

Hey All
First time owning H.I.D's, they are coming stock from Ford on my Mustang. Anything I should know for maintaining them or anything? Any tips? Do I have to be careful while washing the headlight lenses???? I appreciate all the help!

You will love the HIDs over normal halogen bulbs. They operate (on the car) just like the halogens. There is nothing special that must be done with them. The lenses for them are sealed up in the front. When i clean mine i just take a sponge and press up against the plastic lenses and scrub.

So you don't really have to be careful cleaning them or anything, i mean there sealed like crazy to protect from rain and the elements so a car wash sure won't hurt them.

Some helpful information though is i believe on the mustangs the actual HID bulbs used are D3S. If they ever do happen to blow and need changing or if you wish to switch from stock (4500K, white), to like 6000K or higher, retro solutions told me they could order the bulbs for me at about $60 a piece, in any color i needed i believe.

But yes, i love them over halogen lighting. It is like night and day with them.

Plastic polish like Meguires is all thats needed once
a year for the plastic housing covers/lenses.
Same as any old sealed headlight housing.
No special treatment.
Oh yea, dont use them at night because
they blind other drivers....

My owners manual says they are D3R. Can someone confirm this? Thanks!

Yeah my bad. All the letters in the mustang parts, i was bound to get one confused. You are correct though. It's the D3R type'd bulb that is used in the stock ford HIDs.

I have them as well, and they are nice and give the car a great look.

The only problem you will encounter is if you decide to upgrade to the GT500 front bumper and etc. They are different headlight and since they are HIDs - be prepared to pay around $700 each per headlamp

You might want to "stagger" the right vs left aiming a little (right side a little higher than the left). That tends to minimize any little dark areas due to the illumination being slightly uneven. Or you can run your fog lights most of the time for the same reason of providing "fill-in" lighting (as a heads-up to you, NJ09GT - I know that mentioning that last item is likely to start something).

I have the OE Ford HIDs. No special wash treatment, same water, same soap, same sponge as the rest of the upper bodywork. Actually, I'd stay away from any sort of polish or anything similarly abrasive (no matter how fine it claims to be, anything abrasive is still gritty at some level). Once you use those things on any headlight lens you're pretty much locked into HAVING to keep using them. Trust me on that.

He is using the stock OEM HID's and they are correct for the car and no different them other OEM HID's except the fact that they are not in projector lenses/housing's
