Don't mean to jack the thread, but what will a CAI do to gas mileage? And is there a way to tune it without buying an actual tuner?

it doesn't do that much...just the number one first mod! j/k

the CAI "may" improve your mpg's and WILL improve your hp/tq
there are some that don't require a tune, if you are looking to save money....for example, K&N.....

A CAI & tune, depending on how heavy your foot is, MAY gain you 1-2 MPG. But don't count on it. People buy it for the power add; not for economy. If you're worried about gas mileage, either put the apprx. $650 towards your gas or buy a bicycle.

The PCM can only be tuned by a shop or by a vendor like Bama, Brenspeed, VMP and others. With a handheld, all you can do is adjust some of the operating parameters but not nearly as many nor as well as those that know what they're doing with things such as fuel mapping, shift points, etc..

So you're saying I'm better off buying the tuner?

The tune is about 75%-80% of the power adder of the CAI & tune combo. The 2 really do go well together, however. A stand alone CAI will maybe net you 4-6 RWHP. The combo will net you 15-25+ RWHP depending on your existing mods and octane you choose.

You could get just a tune but a lot here will tell you to do it right and get the combo. Check the Bama and Brenspeed websites and don't hesitate to call either's customer service. They can answer all your questions.
